Yesterday was the 110th birthday anniversary of Pablo Neruda, one of the greatest Latin American and Nobel prize-winning  poets of 20th century. Pablo Neruda was born on July 12th, 1904, in Parall, Chile. I think his love poetry and sonnets are the most widely read and no matter how many years pass, they will never stop to express their deep sensation of feelings and their sincere passion.

This sonnet (XVII) is one of my favourite for the moment. Last month twenty unknown poems of "extraordinary quality" were found in Pablo Neruda's manuscripts, but also in every re-reading of his poems, new hidden "places" are unfolding and pure sensual phrases are discovered that speak directly to the inner forms of existence. His love poetry is truly bountiful and endless.

Sonnet XVII

I do not love you as if you were salt-rose, or topaz,
or the arrow of carnations the fire shoots off.
I love as certain dark things are to be loved,
in secret, between the shadow and the soul.

I love you as the plant that never blooms but carries in itself the light of hidden flowers;
thanks to your love a certain solid fragrance,
risen from the earth, lives darkly in my body.

I love you without knowing how, or when, or from where.
I love you straightforwardly, without complexities or pride;
so I love you because I know no other way than this:

where I does not exist, nor you,
so close that your hand on my chest is my hand,
so close that your eyes close as I fall asleep."

― Pablo Neruda
